Just as the title said, DBKL came for Brownie this morning.
It was bout 11am when Brownie started barking very loudly. I was still asleep so it took me quite some time to response to her barking. As I went downstairs and opened the door, a Chinese man was standing outside our gate. Turns out he was with the DBKL and asked to look at Brownie's dog license.
It was one of those FML moments of my life coz I was in pajamas, messy hair, my eyes could hardly focus on anything, and I wasn't wearing any bra. WTF. No time to put on a bra, I had to go look for the dog license.
Having applied one for dunno how many months ago, my dad was in charge of keeping it. As usual, like every other air heads in the family, he misplaced the license. Oh I'm not mocking my dad, but my whole family are air heads. Mom can never be on time and forgets where she places her phone or car keys. Dad's almost the same as in he's always too casual bout everything except for work and cooking. I guess I inherited the genes from them, I can't concentrate well and I'm careless. My sis probably is the least air head among the family I think.
Back to the story, so I couldn't find the dog license at the location as per said by my dad. I searched the whole study room's drawer like a hurricane hit it, but no dog license. Brownie somehow knew she was in trouble coz she was just lying down on the floor with her head between her paws and eyes looking up at me.
I called my dad and asked him to have a word with the DBKL man. So they did. I wasn't around to listen to their conversation though. So by the end of the conversation, the DBKL man handed me a yellow paper (letter of complaint). On the paper, it stated that the reason of complaint was that Brownie's barking was a nuisance to the neighbours.
I wasn't one bit surprised by the reason though. I knew it was only a matter of time until someone complaints, but I didn't know it would be through the DBKL.
My mom has always put in effort to be on good terms with the neighbours, which I've always thought it to be a waste of time and pointless. Unlike being in the apartment/flats neighbourhood, you don't really need neighbours coz you hardly see them. Unless of coz, you're in an all Chinese/ all Indian/ all Malay neighbourhood. I'm not being racist but it's true, people tend to look out for their kind.
Anyway, to me I think my mom had a rather not bad relationship with the neighbours. Perhaps 5-6 houses near to us. The houses on our left and right were unoccupied so you can imagine how far away with the neighbours did my mom tried to have good connections with.
It's rather disappointing and kinda pisses me off that the neighbours never considered bringing their complaint directly to my mom and instead to the DBKL. It's like a friend not trying to advice you when you did something wrong and instead called to the authorities directly.
Trust me, I'm not bitter coz they filed a complaint on Brownie. I am as annoyed by her barking as they could possibly be. You see, ever since Brownie went for an operation to be neutered last 2 weeks, my mom chains her outside the door in our lawn every morning as my family heads out. Then Brownie would howl/bark for quite a long time coz she thinks she's been abandoned. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. I've tried calming her every morning and then go back to sleep, but it still happens the next day, and so, that's what I've been doing every morning for the past 2 weeks.
Not to mention it is the busiest time of the day in the morning. A lot of suspicious looking people will walk pass our neighborhood slipping brochures over our gate, and Brownie barks at them, a lot. Who blames her? They are indeed very suspicious looking like people who take drugs and would kidnap your children anytime any day.
So that's Brownie's reason for barking. I'm not defending her coz I'm actually quite worn out with all the barking in the morning.
I'm still quite pissed that the neighbours didn't bother to bring their complaint directly to our family. Their children don't have a problem coming to our front gate playing with Brownie, but they have a problem when she barks coz there are suspicious looking people walking around.
I don't see us filing complaints to the DBKL about their cats breaking into our house by pushing the mosquito net down from the window and then climbing up to the top of our curtains, or their cats breaking an entry and stealing our fish from the dining table, now do we?
Why do we even bother surviving in a place which we're the minorities, it beats the hell out of me.
The DBKL Chinese man was surprisingly polite though. =)
That's my sis and Brownie when we first got her.
Brownie's still at home right now sleeping as I'm writing this post in the air conditioned room. The license will be checked in the next 3 days.
